Here are some tips to help you save money on your heating bill. To prepare for the coming winter, you should:

1. Check all gutters and make sure they’re clean. You may want to consider installing a gutter guard/leaf covers since extra weight can tear them down.
   
2. Make sure your gutters are securely fastened.
3. Flat roofs should have functional drains.
4. Contact a mason to repair mortar and/or brick if needed.
5. Check all flashings. (metal pieces used to waterproof interruptions in the roof plane such as pipes, chimneys, skylights, etc.) If you are unsure about how to fix it, call us!
6. Touch up caulked areas where needed.
   
7. Don’t use a snow-blower on your roof! Snow blowers are dangerous and can also tear up the roof.
   
8. Snow removal should be done carefully so that you don’t damage the roof.
   
9. NEVER use an ice pick to remove ice build up.
   
10. Heat tape works if installed properly. Heat tapes have caught fire causing homes to burn down.
