Low-E Glass Low-E Glass is also known as “Low Emission” glass; this basically means that while heat and light are allowed to come in through the window, neither can go back out the window. With the low amount of light and heat escaping through the window once inside, the emissions are lower than traditional windows. What makes the glass so energy efficient is the thin layer of oxidized metal on one side of it. While this glass is still transparent both ways and still has the same function as regular glass, the heat and light emitted through is retained much more efficiently.3 There are four basic types of Low-E Glass: - Any Climate, Any Season: this type of glass optimizes the desired heat in your house; whether it is heat or air conditioning, the light may enter but it prevents unnecessary heat from entering or leaving.
- Solar Control: this Low-E Glass is used mainly to keep the house cool and maximize the set air-conditioned level. This glass is tint-free and resembles a traditional window.
- Glare Control: While this glass has a low level of tint, it allows only a soft amount of light to enter your home. To give fair warning, this window will be warmer to touch than regular glass.
- Winter Climate Glass: While solar control optimizes cool air, Winter Climate Glass prevents cold air from entering the house. It allows a large amount of heat and light to enter but a reduced amount of heat or light can be released from inside the house.
